June 6, 2009 | Danny | Comments 0Review: The Boss Bakery and Restaurant in Vancouver
Good old Vancouver Chinatown. Chinatown has been on the decline for years but the City of Vancouver has been reviving and restoring through the Chinatown Revitalization Program. Chinatown is nested in the Strathcona area and right next to downtown. You can really see a big change with all the downtown condos and GM place built right next to Chinatown. One will notice newer condo buildings along Union, Georgia and Pender in Chinatown. There are historical buildings restored along Pender. Chinatown is more vibrant with a balance of the old and new. Also, I notice more local ethnic groups are shopping in Chinatown and even Bean Around The World Coffees has opened on the corner of Gore and Union. Chinatown still has the freshest and cheapest produce, meats, and Asian products in Metro Vancouver.
The Boss is a Chinese bakery in the front and restaurant in the back of the store. All the baked goods are baked on the second floor. They have a small elevator transferring the down. They have a big selection of pastries that are quite delicious.

I will be starting a summer bbq series introducing different foods to grill. Summer is finally here and I can’t wait to bring the bbq out. I like to bbq with charcoals because of the taste and I’m old school. It takes a bit more time to bbq with charcoals but its all worth it! I have been using the Weber One-Touch Silver 18.5 Charcoal Grill for my bbqs and I just love it. I had mine for 10 years and its still like brand new. They are built to last. Weber make excellent bbqs.

Review: 49th Parallel Coffee Roasters in Vancouver
I was in the Kitslano area and decided to visit my favorite espresso bar 49th Parallel. The cafe’s decor is trendy and modern. 49th’s main business is roasting coffee beans. They purchase the finest raw green coffee beans around the world and roast them locally. You can find their roasted beans at Urban Fare, Meinhardt Fine Foods and Whole Foods. My friend always asks me to pick up 49th Parallel’s Epic espresso blend for him.
I ordered a medium latte today. I love the coffee aroma. My latte was rich and excellent.

Review: Sun Fresh Bakery House in Vancouver
My mom has been buying Chinese buns from Sun Fresh for the past 2 years already. The old location use to be down the street. I was told that the buns are handmade here. They hand kneed the dough instead of machine. Sun Fresh is clean and the service is excellent. The buns are fresh, delicious and filling.
Sun Fresh has a excellent selection of buns. The buns are individually wrapped using cellophane place in food trays on shelves. I’m a big fan of the pineapple bbq pork bun. The pineapple bbq pork bun is combining the the pineapple crust and bbq pork filling into one bun. You get the best of two worlds: pineapple and bbq pork. The pineapple bbq pork bun will sell out by mid-day. Most of the popular buns will be sold out by mid-day. The buns are slightly larger and packed with more filling than most other Chinese bakeries. My three favorite buns are pineapple, bbq pork and cocktail buns. I like the traditional buns!
Note: If you purchase $20 or more pastries at a time then Sun Fresh will give you a VIP 10% card. You will get 10% off buns during the next purchase.
