Greek Summer Fest 2009’s menu and food

We dropped by the Greek Summer Fest on a Sunday evening at 7pm.  It was pretty busy because it was dinner time.  The food taste very homey Greek cooking and the food stand are not individually owned.  The food stand is divided into stations depending on what food you ordered.

Caffe Artigiano in Kerrisdale, Vancouver

My photowalk was in the Kerrisdale area on this Saturday. I was walking along West 41st Avenue and remembered seeing a photo from Kennymatic on Caffe Artigiano baristas.

Caffe is the Italian word for coffee. I made a note to try the coffee from Artigiano when I saw the photo.

Artigiano’s decor gave me a very homey Italian feel. The Caffe is quite big because it probably can seat fifty plus patrons. Artigiano was very busy during my visit. They have very high foot traffic due to the Kerrisdale area.

Guu with garlic in Downtown Vancouver

Finally, I am getting around to finish my Guu post. Guu is very well documented and I’m not really sure what to write.

We decided last minute to have dinner at Guu. The only way for us to get seats on a Saturday night was to wait in line for Guu to open. This is my first time lining up for Guu to open! There was quite a crowd standing outside. Roughly about twelve groups were waiting outside and we were the sixth group in line.

Dragon Ball Bubble Tea in Vancouver

Dragon Ball is one of the most popular bubble tea spots in Vancouver. I find that the season and time of day do not make a difference at Dragon Ball. They are always busy. I have seen Dragon Ball make one hundred bubble tea takeouts for one customer in the afternoon. I’m guessing only the hospital can consume one hundred bubble teas in this vicinity. There are long line ups in the evening, but patrons of all ages love Dragon Ball!

Dragon Ball Store

What makes Dragon Ball so popular?

  • Dragon Ball takes pride in preparing their pearls, which are soft, chewy, and lightly sweetened
  • they are always generous with pearls, lychee, grass jelly, and/or coconut jelly in the drinks
  • the bubble teas are consistently good

L’Altro Buca in Downtown Vancouver

Since hearing about L’Altro Buca replacing Parkside, I wanted to go check them out. Their sister restaurant, La Buca, has always been one of my favourite places to go. They have great food, at a very reasonable price (for fine dining, or course).

L’Altro Buca has a unique location, being just outside of the main downtown streets. You probably won’t just stumble accross the place, unless you live in the area. I guess L’Altro Buca doesn’t exactly need a prime location though, because you would have had to make a reso anyways, it’s not quite the type of place that you stumble into after a day on the beach.

On the day of our reso, Jeremy told me that L’Altro Buca, since they just opened, would be using the exact same menu as La Buca for a while, then eventually changing it up so that they do their own stuff.

When we arrived, we noticed that the interior of the restaurant hadn’t changed at all from the Parkside days; it’s fairly dark, but provides a nice, possibly romantic, atmosphere, perfect for fine dining. The staff was friendly, and  we were seated promptly at our reso time. Upon sitting down and taking a look at the menu, we weren’t too surprised to see that it was the exactly same as La Buca. And when I say exactly, I mean, literally, they are the exact same menus. The title at the top even said ‘La Buca’ instead of ‘L’Altro Buca’.

***A note about the pictures from Jeremy: I’m sorry!!! They are awful pictures! I didn’t want to use my flash, since it’s a little distracting in a fine dining restaurant. I also didn’t want to embrass Vanessa too much in the name of having good blogging pictures.
