Leung Kee at Aberdeen in Richmond

Leung Kee

This was my first time eating at the Aberdeen food court. What made this food court unique was layout; you see the food stalls before the seating area. The seating area was very pleasant. They took advantage of the natural lighting with the ceiling to floor giant windows.

I walked around the food area looking for a restaurant. I wouldn’t help noticing that there was a line up at Leung Kee. Most stalls had one or two customers, but Leung Kee had eight or more. By far, Leung Kee was the busiest. I lined up at Leung Kee checking out their menu.  They even had a LCD TV displaying orders ready for pick up.

Basil Leaf pho at Aberdeen in Richmond

Basil Leaf in Aberdeen

The food court at Aberdeen is definitely my favourite food court in Vancouver. There may not be a huge variety of food, since it’s 95% asian, but they make of for it by having a unique layout and giant glass windows that make for an awesome seating area.

Pho from Basil Leaf in Aberdeen

On this particular visit, I decided to try something a little different than my usual swirl egg with shrimp on rice from Leung Kee. After passing Basil Leaf, a newer pho place in the food court, I thought I would give them a try. After all, there was a small line up, and most other places had no line up at all.

Qoola Yogurt + Fruit at Aberdeen in Richmond

Qoola at Aberdeen in Richmond

After having lunch at the Aberdeen Mall food court, I was craving something sweet. It was time to see if Qoola is worth all the recent hype. Qoola makes healthy and fresh frozen yogurt from 100% natural ingredients. They are an eco-friendly company with initiatives to reduce waste by offering biodegradable, compost-able and recyclable products.

Qoola's seating

Qoola offers a trendy, vibrant and refreshing decor which matches pretty well with their slogan - “Pure Heart + Pure Body”. This location has been open for less than two months so everything is shiny and new. Thumbs up to the establishment!

Big River Brewing Pub in Richmond

Big River Brewing

It was a beautiful day and we wanted to have lunch on a patio. This Friday lunch brings us to Big River Brewing Pub next to The Zone Bowling Centre and right behind Riverport Cinemas in Richmond. This area seems to be developing because of the town home developments. Big River Brewing Pub is very convenient for bowlers and movies goers.

Big River's Brew House Burger

Phil and Gary ordered the Brew House Burger. This classic came with cheddar cheese, beer braised onions, jack cheese and bacon.  It was served on a kaiser bun with crisp lettuce, tomato and drive-in sauce.  The condiments were very fresh.  What really sets this burger apart from others is the beer braised onions.  You could really taste scents of beer when you are eating the burger.  The flavoring of the burger was perfect.  Phil and Gary orders the Brew House Burger most of the time.

Yamato East Asia Cuisine ramen in Richmond

Yamato

Yamato East Asia Cuisine is one of the newer ramen places in Richmond. They’re located in the Richmond Public Market, and they’ve only been open for a few weeks (maybe months?). The store is accessible from within RPM as well as from Buswell Street.

After recently going to G-Men, my Richmond ramen expectations were raised a little bit. When we got to Yamato, I definitely found something that I didn’t expect: the prices!

Yamato's menu

Each ramen was $5.99! I can’t remember the last time I ate at a restaurant where the prices of the main dish started with a 5 (unless it was $50). The menu is about average size for a ramen place with plenty of choices.
