December 10, 2009 | Jeremy | Comments 1“The Burger” at Cactus Club in Vancouver - Rob Feenie style
When Rob Feenie decided to join Cactus Club as the new “Food Concept Architect”, I was definitely a little skeptical. First of all, it sounds like they just pulled that title out of thin air, and secondly, this happened right after the fairly abrupt shut down of his restaurants, Lumiere and Feenie’s after a dispute with his partners.
Cactus Club was never at the top of my list for casual dining. The most attractive thing about the restaurant was the auto-toilet seat covering that they had in the washrooms — and when the washrooms are the coolest thing in your restaurant, you know you have issues.
December 4, 2009 | Jeremy | Comments 48 Juice in Aberdeen (Richmond)
Ahh Aberdeen, my favourite food court in Vancouver. If you can look past the horrific parking, Aberdeen has a great food court with a unique layout. There are a reasonable amount of (asian) choices, including awesome Deep Fried Chicken Wings and a great Japanese place with a huge variety (no sushi). There’s also a White Spot in case you’re craving a burger.
As you come up the escalator towards the food court, if you’re able to look past the incredibly tempting Beard Papa’s, you’ll see a small drink stand called ‘8 Juice’. They are pretty much your run of the mill fresh juice stand, much like Jugo Juice, except without the disgusting ‘Wheat Germ’ flavour. Almost all of their drinks are made entirely from fresh fruit and water or ice. They have a wide variety, as well as reasonable prices, considering it’s just fruit and water.
However, in addition to the basic fresh fruit drinks, they also have their 8 Juice House Special. It’s a mango fresh fruit drink with a few additions including mini tapioca balls and it’s awesome! The tapioca balls are sort of like what you would find in bubble tea, but are about 1/8th the size. Ever since I tried the 8 Juice House Special, I usually get one along with whatever meal I get whenever I visit; you should definitely give it a try!
Five Loaves Rating:
Value: 8/10
Quality: 8/10
Overall: 8/10
Verdict: If you enjoy fresh fruit drinks, give the 8 Juice House Special a try next time you’re in Aberdeen!

Long Table Series at Irish Heather in Gastown, Vancouver
This was my first time joining 604 Foodtography, Food and Tell, Foodie Adventures in Vancouver, I’m Only Here for the Food, My Secret Eden, Sherman’s Food Adventures, and Yum-O-Rama food bloggers for a meal at the Irish Heather’s Long Table Series for dinner. It was fun and exciting to meet a new group of bloggers that share a common interest.
Tonight’s Long Table Series was sponsored by Steam Whistle Brewing. They were promoting Steam Whistle Pilsner - a golden, refreshing brew with a distinctive hop aroma, tasty malt flavour, and a clean, crisp finish.
