Bob’s Submarine Sandwiches in Richmond

I love introducing the classics of Richmond. Bob’s Submarine Sandwiches are famous for their awesome subs where a group of us from the office had lunch there this week. The place is simple and has an unique 80’s feel, more like a canteen than a restaurant. I don’t think they have renovated in a very long time, which is not a bad thing. The Korean owner couple is always friendly.

Frosty Shakes at Wendy’s (Annacis Island)

The Wendy’s on Annacis Island is pretty close to my office, so I thought I should pop in and see what the new Frosty Shakes are all about.

The Wendy’s on Annacis Island is joined onto a Tim Horton’s, just in case you feel like round donuts after your square patties.

I didn’t bring a lunch, so I was really at Wendy’s for a whole meal, not just the Frosty Shake. Being a huge, self-proclaimed bacon fan, and never having had the Baconater, I decided to give it a shot. I ordered a Baconater meal, and substituted the drink for a Large Frosty Shake. My total was just over $10.

The Frosty Shakes only come in two sizes: Small and Large. They’re made of Frosty (ice cream malt) and your choice of syrup: Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry, or Coffee. I decided to try the Strawberry Frosty Shake, given that the commercial made it look so tasty!

The Frosty Shake was blended together very well, and it tastes exactly like what it is: a sweet Frosty that is not as thick because it was blended with syrup. Essentially, Frosty Shakes are milkshakes with a fancy name. They taste exactly the same as a milkshake you might get at McDonalds. My Frosty tasted pretty good, and came with whipped cream and a fake cherry on top.

Ultimately, it’s hard to bash the Frosty Shake, I mean, afterall, it’s just a milkshake, and everyone likes milkshakes!

My only advice is: do NOT order the Baconater and the Frosty Shake together as a meal! The Baconater puts up quite the fight going down since it’s a pretty big burger, and the thick Frosty Shake doesn’t help! I would much rather have had some sort of pop like coke, iced tea, or even water or something to help wash down the Baconater.

Five Loaves Rating:
Value: 6/10
Quality: 7/10
Overall: 6.5/10

Verdict: Frosty Shakes are pretty good, they’re just like milkshakes, but don’t have them with the Baconater!

Screamers at Baguette Time in Vancouver

For all the Screamers fans out there, I found a place that sells Screamers in downtown Vancouver. Baguette Time sells the same Screamers as Danny’s Market in Richmond.

What is a Screamer? A Screamer is a combination of slurpee and soft serve ice cream. It sounds weird at the beginning but you should try it. I was skeptical at the beginning also but now I like them. The Screamer is served with slurpee on the bottom and soft serve on top. You have to mix it, slurp, and repeat the process until you finish the Screamer! The Screamer is pretty heavy and almost a meal itself. You should drink or eat it before the ice cream melts because its not as good once the ice cream melts.

Screamers at Danny’s Market in Richmond

I grew up drinking slurpees in the summer time and this must be one of the warmest summers that I can remember in Vancouver. Phil introduced me to Screamers a couple of years ago and was in shock when I didn’t know what a Screamer was! He brought me to Danny’s Market to experience what they’re famous for: The Screamer. They are always quite busy with people coming by for Screamers.
