Donganmen Night Market’s Street Food of Wangfujing in Beijing

Around 6PM, this street turns lively and vibrant because the Donganmen Night Market opens. The street transforms into a tidy row of food stalls. I’m guessing that there must be more than 100 stalls. Surprisingly, the food stalls are lined up very straight, clean, and lit very well. They offer a big variety of street food. I recommend trying their local specialties!

Harvey’s at Home Depot in Richmond

Harvey's at Home Depot in Richmond

Even though Harvey’s is no longer giving out Gift Burger coupons, they still make a great spot for lunch when you’re craving a burger a little more substantial than a McDonald’s hamburger.

The only Harvey’s that is reasonably accessible in Richmond is the one attached to the Home Depot near Ikea located at Bridgeport and Sweden Way. The other one is in Vancouver, but I wouldn’t really go all the way there just for a burger.

Inside at Harvey's

Inside, Harvey’s is just a small counter with a few small tables set up. Despite their meager store front, they still make awesome, fresh burgers!

Boneless Chicken Wings at Wendy’s

Wendy's Logo

Wendy’s recently announced a new flavor for their Boneless Chicken wings: Sweet & Spicy Asian Chicken. I didn’t even know that they had Boneless Chicken Wings to begin with, so Danny and I decided to go check it out for lunch.

Sweet & Spicy Asian Chicken Ad
We arrived at the Wendy’s on Annacis Island to find ads for the new ‘Asian Chicken’ wings all over the place. I was only there for a snack, so I got a single order of the new Sweet & Spicy Asian Chicken flavored boneless wings. Danny got the entire meal with fries and a soft drink.

Teriyaki McChicken burger at McDonalds

McDonalds Teriyaki Ad
I’m always a little worried when McDonalds releases a new burger.. it just never seems to go very well. Despite being one of my favourite places to eat, they really broke my heart when they introduced the new Angus burger and got rid of the Big Xtra! Regardless, when I heard about the new Teriyaki McChicken, I thought I might as well give it a try.

Prior to going, I asked a friend of mine that tried the Teriyaki Quarter Pounder how it was. His exact words were “don’t do it.” I didn’t listen, made my way over to the McDonalds by Wal-Mart and decided to get the Teriyaki McChicken combo. I also got a 10-Piece McNuggets, just in case the burger was as bad as I heard it was.

Teriyaki McChicken
Not suprisingly, the burger looks exactly like what it is: A McChicken with some teriyaki sauce slapped on the bottom. As far as taste goes, the burger is mediocre at best. The Teriyaki sauce doesn’t really mix well with the McChicken sauce (mayo), and has an overpowering flavour. By the time I finished the burger, I was glad that I had the extra nuggets to satisfy my McDonalds craving.

Five Loaves Rating:
Quality: 5/10
Value: 6/10
Overall: 5.5/10

Verdict: You’ll be craving for the classic taste of a regular McChicken if you dare try the Teriyaki McChicken burger.

L.A. Chicken in Richmond

3739871509_5a53cae560

Since we’ve been going through the Richmond classics, like Bob’s Subs and Screamers, I thought I should throw up another Richmond favourite: L.A. Chicken.

L.A. Chicken has been around for a very long time! Originally, they were known as Lee’s Chicken, which is why the faded sign above the door still says “Chicken so good, it’s gotta be Lee’s”. Lee’s Chicken is a franchise in the states which actually does have some restaurants up here in Canada.

Around 1999 (correct me if I’m wrong), they changed their name to ‘L.A. Chicken’. I think there was also a management change at the time, but most importantly, the flavour stayed the same!
