Blackberry Bistro in Richmond (Steveston)

Blackberry Bistro

Update (11/03/09): Blackberry Bistro has now closed down.

Blackberry Bistro’s location is far from prime. Actually, it’s in the middle of no where: it’s found at the end of No. 2 Road in Richmond at the Steveston Landing. Despite the location, Danny and I went to check it out, based on a friend’s recommendation.

Soo
There really isn’t too much around Blackberry.. most notably the Soo Jerky factory and Diplomat Bakery.

On both the outside and in, Blackberry has a very modern feel; you can tell that a lot of time was spent on the design. Despite the aesthetics, we noticed that Blackberry was having a little bit of an identity crisis. As mentioned above, they look like a modern bistro, but they also have a wall of Soo Jerky products for sale. There is a giant white 7-11 style drink fridge when you enter, and they also have a complete selection of gelato available. This worried me a little.

Torarenbo Japanese Restaurant in Richmond

Torarenbo

Torarenbo is one of our favourite sushi place in Richmond along side Kiyo and Sushi House. It’s one of our regular lunch joints that we alternate between. Torarenbo, or T-Bo for short has a great lunch special with good quality food. It’s located in what is probably best known as the Happy Date plaza on Park and Buswell.

Their lunch special is a Japanese style lunch box with a variety of different choices for the ‘main’ dish. As usual, they it includes a miso soup. I’ve never really been able to tell the difference between miso soups, so, T-Bo’s miso soup is as usual, quite good!

Combo box miso soup

The T-Bo lunch box comes with the usual suspects: sushi, tempura, main dish, rice, fruit and salad. What makes T-Bo so good is that the portions are good, and the quality is better than a lot of Japanese places in Richmond.

Spicy Szechuan in Richmond

I’m a little surprised no one has blogged about Spicy Szechuan.  Spicy Szechuan has been around for a long time.  They serve a variety of Shanghai, Szechuan, and Cantonese dishes.  The restaurant is very clean and tidy. The reason that I’m introducing Spicy Szechuan because it is a gem. Its definitely not at the same level as Shanghai River, Shanghai Wonderful and Top Shanghai Cuisine. But, Spicy Szechuan makes up in many ways like better value on above average food quality and no line ups.

Guu with garlic in Downtown Vancouver

Finally, I am getting around to finish my Guu post. Guu is very well documented and I’m not really sure what to write.

We decided last minute to have dinner at Guu. The only way for us to get seats on a Saturday night was to wait in line for Guu to open. This is my first time lining up for Guu to open! There was quite a crowd standing outside. Roughly about twelve groups were waiting outside and we were the sixth group in line.

Dragon Ball Bubble Tea in Vancouver

Dragon Ball is one of the most popular bubble tea spots in Vancouver. I find that the season and time of day do not make a difference at Dragon Ball. They are always busy. I have seen Dragon Ball make one hundred bubble tea takeouts for one customer in the afternoon. I’m guessing only the hospital can consume one hundred bubble teas in this vicinity. There are long line ups in the evening, but patrons of all ages love Dragon Ball!

Dragon Ball Store

What makes Dragon Ball so popular?

  • Dragon Ball takes pride in preparing their pearls, which are soft, chewy, and lightly sweetened
  • they are always generous with pearls, lychee, grass jelly, and/or coconut jelly in the drinks
  • the bubble teas are consistently good
