All-You-Can-Eat at Richmond Sushi

Borrowed the outside pic from acme7.worpress.com; hope they don’t mind..
I used to be a big fan of All-You-Can-Eat (AYCE) sushi back when I was a little younger, and not a food snob. Things have changed considerably, and now I would much rather have some quality Hamachi from Kiyo than gourge myself on mushy tuna sashimi at an AYCE place.
Despite my new preference, the odd AYCE event always comes up in the form some party. Last week, I celebrated a friend’s birthday at Richmond Sushi, one of my most feared AYCE sushi places. In years past, I remember going to Richmond Sushi and eating myself sick on their salmon and tuna sashimi. Even though I wasn’t a fan of Richmond Sushi, I would never turn down a birthday celebration with a friend.
We went to Richmond Sushi for their AYCE Dinner menu. Most AYCE places have different levels of their dinner menu; some make you pay extra for pop, or for sashimi. We went all out with Richmond Sushi’s “Superior Deluxe Dinner”. Although the SDD comes in at close to $30 bucks, it has it all: AYCE sashimi, prawn tempura, pop, etc. All the mediocre quality japanese food you could handle!
August 8, 2009 | Jeremy | Comments 1Osamu Sushi in Coquitlam
After a playing an afternoon round of golf at the Golden Eagle Golf Club we went to Osamu Sushi for dinner. This is one of my favorite Japanese restaurants because of their authenticity and great food but we only get to go when we golf in the Coquitlam or Pitt Meadows area. Its been a few years since I last visited, so I was hoping the food was as good as I remembered.
Osamu went through a redecoration in the time since I was here and the new decor resembles an Earls more than a Japanese restaurant. They used to look like a standard sushi house but the modern look better matches their menu.

Yamato East Asia Cuisine is one of the newer ramen places in Richmond. They’re located in the Richmond Public Market, and they’ve only been open for a few weeks (maybe months?). The store is accessible from within RPM as well as from Buswell Street.
After recently going to G-Men, my Richmond ramen expectations were raised a little bit. When we got to Yamato, I definitely found something that I didn’t expect: the prices!
Each ramen was $5.99! I can’t remember the last time I ate at a restaurant where the prices of the main dish started with a 5 (unless it was $50). The menu is about average size for a ramen place with plenty of choices.

Torarenbo is one of our favourite sushi place in Richmond along side Kiyo and Sushi House. It’s one of our regular lunch joints that we alternate between. Torarenbo, or T-Bo for short has a great lunch special with good quality food. It’s located in what is probably best known as the Happy Date plaza on Park and Buswell.
Their lunch special is a Japanese style lunch box with a variety of different choices for the ‘main’ dish. As usual, they it includes a miso soup. I’ve never really been able to tell the difference between miso soups, so, T-Bo’s miso soup is as usual, quite good!
The T-Bo lunch box comes with the usual suspects: sushi, tempura, main dish, rice, fruit and salad. What makes T-Bo so good is that the portions are good, and the quality is better than a lot of Japanese places in Richmond.

Finally, I am getting around to finish my Guu post. Guu is very well documented and I’m not really sure what to write.
We decided last minute to have dinner at Guu. The only way for us to get seats on a Saturday night was to wait in line for Guu to open. This is my first time lining up for Guu to open! There was quite a crowd standing outside. Roughly about twelve groups were waiting outside and we were the sixth group in line.
