They have a fairly extensive menu with salads, burgers, pastas and pizza. Some of the dishes even come with a side Caesar salad, that’s pretty good for $10! The deal expires on November 1st 2009, and is for dine in only.

Free SIGG bottle exchange program

Update (01/11/09): This opportunity has now expired I hope you guys were able to exchange your bottles!

Update (01/10/09): The exchange program will only last until October 31st, 2009; so remember to exchange your bottles soon!

Update (21/09/09): Added U - The Life Accessory Store to list of stores you can exchange at.

After the BPA leeking fiasco, seemingly overnight, everyone dumped their Nalgene water bottles and picked up Sigg ones. Sigg bottles were praised because, through numerous 3rd party tests, they never leaked any BPA into your drink.

Although implied, Sigg never stated that the liner didn’t have any BPA, they just said that it doesn’t leak BPA, which, arguably, is the same thing.

Since developing a new liner that is really BPA free, Sigg is now offering a replacement bottle to anyone with a bottle with the old liner for FREE!

Determining if you have the old liner or the new liner is very easy. If you look at the inside of your Sigg bottle and see a shiny brass colour, that is the OLD liner. If inside your Sigg bottle you see a flat pale colour, you have the NEW liner (and are not eligible).
You can find more details about the liners here: http://www.mysigg.com/liner/

To claim your free water bottle, you can have two options.
You can either send your bottle to Sigg (you pay shipping) with labels and forms provided by them; or you can take your Sigg bottle back to the place you purchased it, and they will exchange it for you. If you choose the second option, note that only certain stores are participating.
For details on both methods, check out the Sigg site here: http://mysigg.com/bulletin/exchange_program.html

In Vancouver, I’ve been told that London Drugs, Whole Foods, and U - The Life Accessory Store will exchange the bottles for sure.
London Drugs has a list of styles they’ve sold in the past, and will check to see if yours is one of them.
Whole Foods on the other hand will exchange any bottle you bring them, assuming they have some in stock to give back to you.
U - The Life Accessory Store will also exchange any sigg bottle for you, without a receipt.

If you know of any other confirmed places that exchange the bottles, please leave a comment!

Just to be clear, old Sigg bottles never leaked BPA, so you’re completely safe if you stick with your old one.

I should also note that I believe the whole BPA issue is an over exaggerated media hyped sales tool. We use plenty of products each day that have BPA in the lining, and no one bats an eyelash. Tin cans, for example, have BPA in the lining, and we use them for everything from canned soup to canned tuna.

That said, I DO believe in getting a brand new water bottle for free, so I will be sending mine in soon!

Keramiko’s Kitchen Silicone Utensils Giveaway!

If you head over to My Organized Chaos, you can enter for a chance to win a free set of silicone utensils from Keramiko’s Kitchen! Entries are accepted until September 16th.

Keramiko’s Kitchen specializes in making ceramic knives, but their silicone utensils are also supposed to be quite good.

Silicone utensils are much like rubber ones, but are extremely heat resistant so they won’t melt while using them. Unfortunately, they are also much more expensive. I’ve compiled a list of advantages and disadvantages to silicone utensils in general:

Pros
- Extremely heat resistant (~500°F)
- Easy to clean

Cons
- Silicone utensils don’t necessarily perform better than regular utensils
- A lot of silicone utensils have metal handles, making them hotter/harder to use
- Silicone utensils still break and suffer damage like all other utensils, they’re not indestructible

Overall, silicone utensils are definitely good, but they come with a price premium. I would certainly recommend a silicone spatula, but I wouldn’t rush out to replace all my current utensils with silicone ones. Often the silicone utensils may look nicer, or be a little easier to clean, but the alternatives can perform just as well, if not better, for a lower price. For example, a wooden spoon can often do the exact same job as a silicone one, and a standard baster will most likely perform much better than it’s silicone replacement.
