Capstone is located in the heart of downtown Vancouver on Robson Street. I have passed by many times driving through the area, but never noticed it until a friend mentioned that they serve AYCE fondue a few years ago. Ever since then I associated AYCE fondue with Capstone.
The place had a trendy decor and an upbeat atmosphere. Its not a romantic place, but a nice place for a few friends to hang out and chit chat because the place is small and cozy.
The place only consisted of a main counter area with no back kitchen. You probably don’t need a back kitchen to make drinks and fondue. Seems like most of the food was prepared ahead of time already.
The ACYE fondue was around $8, but the catch was only if you ordered a drink. I couldn’t believe the ACYE fondue was $13 without ordering a drink. Then I browsed through the drink menu and noticed that all the drinks are minimum of $5. Basically, you are forced to order a drink with the ACYE fondue.
I decided against have ACYE fondue because the waitress claimed no strawberries and pineapples today. Sarcastically, I asked the waitress today or everyday? The waitress did not reply. I was quite disappointed. How can a fondue place not serve strawberries? Its only 9pm and still summer time. We are in the peak of strawberry season!
I ordered the Chocolate Fondue Sampler. Came with bananas, green apples, blueberries, grapes, cherries, marshmallows, pretzels, and gummy bears. Sorry, serving gummy bears for a fondue is unforgivable for me. Everything was cut really small. My impression was quantity over quality. I would recommend serving half quantity with quality items. Also, the chocolate tasted watered down.
Five Loaves Rating:
Value: 6/10
Quality: 5/10
Overall: 5.5/10
Verdict: Disappointing fondue experience!
