Another Aberdeen post! Soon we’ll have covered every restaurant in that place!
For lunch one day, we decided to make our way back to the Aberdeen Food Court. After getting some Deep Fried Chicken Wings at Wo Fung, I decided to grab my real meal from Lung Kee. ‘Lung Kee’ is not to be confused with the similarly named ‘Leung Kee’. Despite having similar names, they serve different types of dishes. Leung Kee specializes in more ‘classic’ Cantonese style dishes, for example, Beef and Egg swirl on rice, or Beef Stir fry with flat rice noodles. Lung Kee on the other hand has a much less diverse menu consisting mostly of congee, noodles and soup noodles.
Already having ordered the Deep Fried Chicken, I opted to go with the lighter meal of Fresh Prawn Wonton Noodle in Soup. The meal comes with a hot drink and changing to a cold drink costs an extra $1. Given how Vancouver’s weather has been recently, I gladly changed to a cold drink. $1 dollar for the change seems pretty steep, but the cold drinks are also quite a bit larger than the hot drinks.
Wonton noodle in soup is not a complicated dish, and Lung Kee did it well. The ‘Fresh Prawn Wonton’ were alright; the wonton consisted of shrimp a bit smaller than what I usually expect from a wonton, and the texture was also about average. Shrimp Wonton should have a more bouncy, ’song’ () texture, which, unfortunately, these didn’t. The soup base was also alright, it had a good flavour without an overpowering taste of MSG. Certainly not the best soup I’ve ever had, but nothing to complain about either. Lastly, the veggies (Gai Lan) in the dish were cooked well. They were a little too bitter for my taste, but the greens were a welcome addition to the dish.
Overall, the meal was reasonably priced for the food court, and I’ll definitely go back if I’m craving Shrimp Wonton and noodles in soup.
Five Loaves Rating:
Value: 7/10
Quality: 7/10
Overall: 7/10
Verdict: Not bad if you want some wonton to supplement your order of Wo Fung Deep Fried Chicken.
