Big River Brewing Pub in Richmond

Big River Brewing

It was a beautiful day and we wanted to have lunch on a patio. This Friday lunch brings us to Big River Brewing Pub next to The Zone Bowling Centre and right behind Riverport Cinemas in Richmond. This area seems to be developing because of the town home developments. Big River Brewing Pub is very convenient for bowlers and movies goers.

Big River's Brew House Burger

Phil and Gary ordered the Brew House Burger. This classic came with cheddar cheese, beer braised onions, jack cheese and bacon.  It was served on a kaiser bun with crisp lettuce, tomato and drive-in sauce.  The condiments were very fresh.  What really sets this burger apart from others is the beer braised onions.  You could really taste scents of beer when you are eating the burger.  The flavoring of the burger was perfect.  Phil and Gary orders the Brew House Burger most of the time.

Big River's garlic fries

The main reason that we came to Big River Brewing is because they served garlic fries with pesto mayo. The garlic fries are tasty and fried to perfection. Beware of your breath after eating the garlic fries. Most meals come with garlic fries on the menu, but the pesto mayo is additional.

Big River's Portabello Sandwich

Big River's Turkey Club

Initially, I ordered the Portabello Sandwich.  This came with garlic, soy sauce marinated portabello mushroom and topped with jack cheese.  It was served on a portuguese bun with crisp lettuce, tomato and chopotle bbq mayo.  I started with a few fries and it brought back the good memories. The fries were still as good as the first time I tasted them.  Then I took my first bite into the sandwich.  Woaaaah!  This must be the lowest point of the meal.  The portabello has been drenched with soy sauce.  It was way too salty.  I quickly waved the waitress down and ask her to change the order.  She quickly obliged.  By this time, Phil and Gary has finished half their meal.  I didn’t want them the new order to take too long.  She recommended the Turkey Club.

Finally, my Turkey Club arrived, it was a triple decker loaded with crisp bacon, turkey, lettuce, mayo and tomato on toasted sourdough bread.  The club was loaded with condiments and balanced in taste. The bread was very fresh and I loved the sourness of the dough.  This definitely turned into a good replacement meal.

Aside from the super salty portabello mushroom, our meal turned out fine.  The restaurant was quick to acknowledge the mistake and satisfy the customer.  I would return to Big River Brewing Pub for future lunches.

Five Loaves Rating:
Value: 7/10
Quality: 7/10
Overall: 7/10

Verdict: The food is decent and served with garlic fries. Garlic fries and pesto mayo is an awesome combination!
