Bauhinia in Richmond

There are so many HK style cafes in Richmond to choose from: Bauhinia, Alleluia Cafe, E-Canteen, Boston Steakhouse, etc. Bauhinia is higher end and is more expensive than others. The food, service and interior design are definitely better than other HK style cafes. Bauhinia and Pittsburg at Crystal Mall in Burnaby are sister restaurants.

Bauhinia’s menu comes in a la carte or set meals. The Western set meals include a drink and soup with garlic bread or a dinner roll, and the Chinese set meals only come with a drink. Soup choices are Russian Borscht or cream of mushroom or corn. The beauty of HK style cafes are the drinks: You can order drinks hot or cold in Horlicks, HK milk tea, HK coffee, almond, Ovaltine, and lemon iced tea, jJust to mention a few. Most people will order from the set menu because it comes with a drink.

Phil ordered the Hawaiian short ribs, as he always does. He requested to have extra vegetables instead of rice or spaghetti. The short ribs are grilled to golden brown. Very well balance of meat and ribs.

Gary ordered the beef brisket noodles in soup. He orders this most of the time. He loves to get the extra chili oil to pour into the soup!

Jeremy ordered curry fried rice with ham and shrimp, he mentioned that the dish was overall very good, but the curry flavor was a little weak.

I ordered the yee mein. Yee mein are fried, chewy noodles made from wheat flour and egg or lye-water. The yee mein that I ordered had mushrooms, carrots and bean sprouts braised in oyster sauce. I like my yee mein dry instead of wet. This is a very well prepared dish.
