For lunch on Friday, we went to one of our favourite pho places in Richmond: Green Lemongrass. Naturally, being a favourite place, we didn’t exactly eat lightly, with large soups, 2 types of spring rolls, etc.
Full and happy, we returned to the office when we unexpectedly saw Vanessa bringing by some food from dim sum at Bing Sheng. Now, as full as I was, it is extremely hard for me to say no to a few bites of dim sum!
Aside: Sitting at the corner of Renfrew and 2nd Ave., Bing Sheng doesn’t look like much, but I’ve heard good things. I also heard that it’s a popular restaurant/chain in Asia, and they brought it over here (if anyone can verify, please leave a comment!).
Back to the food: Vanessa knows exactly what I like, so I was not surprised to see my two favourite dim sum dishes: Shrimp Spring Rolls, and Kwai Fa Bao!
Even though they spent 15+ minutes in the car, the Shrimp Spring Rolls were still pretty good! They were fat and juicy, and most importantly, quite tasty! I was thinking about sharing them with my co workers, but there wasn’t enough for everyone, so.. I ate them all myself.
The next item was the Kwai Fa Bao, I was told that the translation is something along the lines of ‘Concubine Bun’.
Kwai Fa Baos are one of my favourite dim sum items. They have a crumbly, sugary outer layer, and are filled with BBQ Pork on the inside. The Bing Sheng version was actually pretty good, despite (again) being in the car for 15+ minutes.
Note about KFBs: I don’t always get to try Kwai Fa Bao’s because not all dim sum places serve them. Only a few of the dim sum places I normally go to actually have them, these being: Kirin, Empire and Top Gun.
Overall, my Bing Sheng take out was very good, and I would love to actually go there for dim sum, hopefully soon!
